Performance for four trombonists

Performed at London Contemporary Music Festival, 2013

Trombones in Spaces, is composed for four small-bore trombones and a large, reflective wall. Five distances are marked away from the wall, each distance varying by an echo speed of 30bpm. Players move backwards and forwards from these markers to create echo speeds that are brought in and out of synchrony and that layer on top of each other to create complex polyrhythms. The use of natural echo allows the player to achieve effects that may not usually be possible, such as the precise slowing of one rhythm against another.
